Doom 2D Review 1: What is Doom 2D you ask? It`s actually doom, but the unknown creators squeezed the 3d juice out of it... and that`s the result! A Doom 2D game! The game is hard and the controls are really uncomfortable! I could go on and on telling about this weird version, but that`s really it! You`d better download this one!



Review 2: Ever want to know what DOOM would be like if it were made as 2D side-scrolling shooter? Well, now you can! DOOM 2D is an excellent fan-made game based on id's perennial favorite, featuring everything you love about DOOM, only in 2D. The games is very faithful to the original hit: the marines and monsters look just like they would look from the side, and the author even went to great lengths to use realistic textures and backgrounds from the game. Even the levels - all 19 of them - are faithfully recreated from actual DOOM maps, and die-hard fans will be able to recognize their favorite levels if they try hard enough to visualize 3D maps in 2D ;) The game supports two multiplayer modes: co-operative, and the famous deathmatch. Weapons are satisfactorily recreated from the original, although the game could use more sound effects. To summarize, DOOM 2D is a lot of fun, and a very original take on one of the best games ever made. The controls are easy to learn, and the game is competently coded with no glaring bugs. Originally released in Russian only, the game has since been translated into English - you can download that version below ;) Be warned that it may conflict with Windows, so it's best to run in pure DOS only. A fun and much more enjoyable effort than the original-but-very-weird Textmode Quake.
